Return To TopThe research project “Competency mapping based on university expectations and employer competency preferences” is carried out at the University of Pannonia.
The Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Pannonia is committed to the continuous development of students’ competences in line with employers’ needs. To this end, labour market research is carried out to identify the competences of graduates in business studies.
The resulting Competency Guide will be useful for many groups. For new entrants to the labour market, learning about competences is a kind of orientation for their job search, as it gives them an overview of which competences are currently considered important by employers and which of these they possess. For those still in student status, it also provides important information. They will know which competences to focus on during their studies. This will help them to set goals more consciously.
For the higher education institution, the competence assessment provides feedback on the training structure offered and on its extra-curricular activities. The employer’s opinion can help to review and possibly change existing training. Hereby, it can help students to acquire the competences that the labour market really needs. Ultimately, by making recommendations, institutions can help to move the Learning Outcome Requirements in a direction that will also allow for more responsive training structures to employer needs.
For the employer side, the results of the research provide a comprehensive picture of the most important labour market competences in general – what the university can respond to and what employers should focus on more strongly during the integration process in order to retain new entrants. These can be reflected in partnerships between employers and the university. All these contribute to reduce the skills gap in the labour market and to a shift towards a learning society.
